Sasse Resigns as University of Florida President

Former Senator Announces Departure after 17 Months

Citing Family Reasons, Sasse to Step Down in July

Ben Sasse, the president of the University of Florida and a former Republican senator from Nebraska, has announced that he will resign from his current position as President, effective July 31st.

In a short statement emailed across campus, Sasse, 52, wrote that his wife, Melissa, had accepted a position outside of Florida and that he needed to step back for a time to support his family.

"I need to step back for a time and be fully present for my wife and kids," Sasse wrote. "The presidency of UF has been the greatest honor of my life. This is not a decision I have made lightly, but the right one for our family."

Sasse was officially inaugurated as the 13th president of the University of Florida on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
