Gypsy Rose Lee, born Rose Louise Hovick, was an American burlesque entertainer, stripper, actress, author, and playwright. Born in Seattle, Washington in 1911, she was known for her signature "ecdysiast," or striptease, act.

Lee began her career in show business as a child, performing with her mother in vaudeville. She later moved to New York City, where she found success in burlesque. Lee's act was known for its wit and humor, and she quickly became one of the most popular burlesque performers of her time.

In addition to her burlesque career, Lee also appeared in films and on Broadway. She also wrote several books, including an autobiography and a novel. Lee died in 1970 at the age of 59.

Gypsy Rose Lee was a pioneer in the world of burlesque. She was a talented performer and businesswoman, and her impact on the entertainment industry is still felt today.
